Самой зловещей ирландской фейри считается баньши, которая предсказывает смерть своими рыданиями. Правда, посетив Ирландию, вам вряд ли удастся ее услышать, поскольку услуги баньши эксклюзивные – она оплакивает только представителей знатных ирландских родов. Баньши предстает как в виде прекрасной девы в зеленом платье и с длинными волосами, так и уродливой старухи с седыми космами. Согласно поверьям, баньши можно встретить у ручья, где она стирает саваны мертвецов. Но горе тому шутнику, который попросит баньши и ему что-нибудь простирнуть! Рассерженная фейри отвесит нахалу пощечину, навсегда оставив на его лице красный отпечаток. Впрочем, постирать белье она тоже может – если окажется в хорошем настроении.

А самые известные ирландские фейри это, конечно же, леприконы. Их изображают низкорослыми, рыжебородыми и в зеленых колпаках. По профессии леприконы – сапожники. Они бодро постукивают молоточками, мастеря обувь для своих собратьев. Кроме того, они ведают кладами. Если изловить леприкона, в обмен на свободу он предложит горшочек золота, который, по легендам, хранится на одном конце радуги.

Возможно, вам тоже удастся поймать леприкона и попросить у него горшочек с золотыми монетами. Если же нет, не огорчайтесь – путешествие по Великобритании, включая Северную Ирландию, будет незабываемым даже без древних кладов.
