Автор приводит увлекательнейшие подробности дуэлей с использованием самых разных видов оружия, а также иных, иногда весьма оригинальных предметов, таких, например, как бильярдные шары. Ричард Хоптон подробно рассказывает о традициях и истории дуэлей в разные исторические эпохи и в разных странах, и не только в Европе — в Англии, Франции, России и Германии, но и в США, где во времена Дикого Запада также имели место поединки, подчинявшиеся строгим правилам и своеобразному кодексу.
