Дополнительная литература по социологии эмоций дает и другие примеры пересечения между эмоциями и неравенством. Например, в одном из исследований показывается, что элиты часто манипулируют эмоциями, чтобы подчиненные не оспаривали их статус-кво [Schwalbe et al., 2000]. Люди, которые склонны считать успех результатом усердной работы и таланта, с меньшей вероятностью будут испытывать и выражать гнев по отношению к тем, кому выпало больше шансов в жизни благодаря богатству и семейным связям. Вместо того чтобы размышлять о неравенстве, такие работники просто «больше стараются» и винят самих себя, если им не удается достичь успеха. Стыд и другие негативные чувства часто не рассматриваются как последствия социально-классового неравенства.
