i debriefing after the meeting
Srnest: What did you think of the meeting?
iVilliam: Well, to be honest, I couldn’t really fathom what was going on. There were so
many complicated words that I didn’t understand, and I’m not sure that the engineer really knew what he was talking about himself.
Ernest: I rather agree with you.
William: Do you think he is English or American? That might explain some of the mis
understandings — there are a lot of language differences, you know. On top of that, he really wasn’t very clear and I’m sure I didn’t catch everything.
Ernest: Yes, and it was difficult to hear what he said sometimes. Also he left out a lot of
words while he was talking. I’ve heard about ellipses in English, but I’ve never seen it that bad! When you are reading you have time to work out what a new word might be in its context, or look things up in a dictionary. I’m sure that \ didn’t grasp a lot of what he was trying to say.
William: You want to be careful using a dictionary, though, it’s very easy to misinterpret
